WYA is a hyperlocal social app. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email or username and password (stored securely). You may optionally add a display name and profile image.

Location. To show you nearby posts and attach your location to your posts, we use your device's location. We may store approximate coordinates (e.g. in a cookie) so we don't have to ask every time. We do not continuously track your location in the background.

Content you post.Your messages, optional location labels (e.g. "Central Park"), and any hashtags or links you include are stored and displayed according to the Service's functionality.

Votes and engagement. We store your upvotes and downvotes on posts and your comments and replies so we can show scores and threads.

Technical data. We may log IP address, browser type, and similar technical data for security and operation (e.g. rate limiting, debugging).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to: provide and improve the Service; build your feed based on location and sort order (new, hot, top); show your posts and engagement to others; enforce our terms and prevent abuse; and communicate with you about the Service (e.g. password reset, important notices).

3. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies (or similar local storage) to remember your approximate location so you don't have to re-authorize every time. We may also use session cookies for authentication. You can clear cookies in your browser; doing so may reset your location preference and log you out.

4. Sharing and Disclosure

Your posts, username, and engagement are visible to other users of the Service as part of the feed and profiles. We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights or safety, or with your consent.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove or anonymize your personal data in accordance with our retention policy. Some data may remain in backups for a limited period.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You can access and update your profile in the app. You can delete individual posts or your account. You can revoke location access in your device or browser settings (noting that the feed and posting require location). Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (e.g. access, correction, deletion, portability, objection). Contact us (see Support or Legal) to exercise them.

7. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your data (e.g. encryption, access controls). No system is completely secure; you provide data at your own risk.

8. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
